Not everyone on the losing Yank side
has recovered from an emotional Ryder
Cup hangover. For that matter, a few of
the winning Euros still may be sleeping
off their well-documented and well-fueled
celebration.
So give American captain Davis Love III
props for showing up in Las Vegas last week,
making the cut and not making any excuses
for Medinah.
Meanwhile, keep an eye on Denmark’s
22-year-old Thorbjorn Olesen, runner-up to
South African Branden Grace in the Alfred
Dunhill Links Championship at St. Andrews
on Sunday. Olesen should not be considered
a surprise if he lands a spot on the Euro
Ryder Cup team in 2014.
For his part, the ascendant Grace, a
four-time winner in Europe this year,
almost certainly will earn a berth on the
International side in next year’s Presidents
Cup at Muirfield Village.
Speaking of St. Andrews, on the other
side of the Firth of Forth in East Lothian,
you will find a cornucopia of terrific golf and
more than a wee bit of Scottish history and

Meanwhile, the golf gods surely were
winking amongst themselves Sunday out on
the Champions Tour in North Carolina where
German Bernhard Langer won a week after
fellow German Martin Kaymer drained the
six-footer that clinched the Ryder Cup.
Finally in Las Vegas, American Ryan
Moore’s victory was the second in a career
that looks like it’s finally ready to happen.
One day maybe he, too, will get to test the
boiling waters of the Ryder Cup cauldron.
